Looking over iMobility Challenge achievements

Connected vehicles that talk to each other and are connected to the infrastructure will be on our roads very soon. This represents a tremendous opportunity for better mobility and better living in our cities.

Some of the highlight of the iMobility Challenge have included energy-efficient driving competitions in European city centres, or live rescue demonstrations showcasing the faster response times that can be achieved thanks to the emergency eCall system. All events gave the opportunity to the participating experts and public to get first-hand experience of advanced technologies.

The final project conference “intelligent mobility for smart cities” saw inspiring speakers give their views on what future intelligent vehicles will look like and how we will move around cities tomorrow. Recurring thoughts were the importance of collaboration and technological convergence so that ICT is not used in a piecemeal manner and everyone can benefit from innovation. If you missed the event, I invite you to catch up online were the entire conference was made available (watch the presentations' videos).

At the European Commission, we are committed to ensuring the interoperability and openness of the mobility sector: open platforms, open standards and open data can all help ensure mobile citizens will fully benefit from the richness of connected, intelligent mobility.
