Editorial: Welcome to the iMobility Challenge!

It is my pleasure to introduce the iMobility Challenge: a new project which aims to promote the market take-up of clean, efficient and safe ITS solutions in Europe. iMobility Challenge is the successor to the eSafety Challenge project which focused on the promotion of eSafety systems.
We need your support to successfully bring more intelligent vehicles to market, and hope you will join the iMobility Challenge with us!

Launch of iMobility Challenge: Intelligent Vehicles, Efficient Mobility
The iMobility Challenge project kicked-off with a meeting of all project stakeholders on 11 October 2012. Funding is provided by the European Commission's Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT).

First iMobility Challenge event: FIA champions compete for Ecodriving champion title
The first event held within the iMobility Challenge project was the iMobility Ecodriving Challenge, held in Istanbul on 7th of December. Unlike a usual race, the purpose on this occasion was for the champions to display the most energy efficient driving.

iMobility Challenge: definition of systems to be promoted
One of the first tasks of the project is to investigate those systems that need to be promoted. VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland), the research partner in iMobility Challenge is working on the "Mapping of iMobility Challenge systems".

iMobility Support: new EU Project in support of Intelligent Mobility
On 24 January 2013, ERTICO - ITS EUROPE launched a new European Union funded project called iMobility Support. iMobility Support will assist in the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Europe.

Industry efforts for connected Mobility
Connected vehicles are a key element of tomorrow’s safe and efficient mobility. Industry, national authorities and research agencies have agreed that enabling vehicles to communicate with each other and traffic infrastructure can play an important role towards achieving the goal of reducing fatal accidents on European roads towards zero.

iMobility Challenge “taking off” in the Netherlands: block the date!
One of the major iMobility Challenge events this year will be held on 11 September 2013 at the Valkenburg Airport Katwijk (close to The Hague). This will be a high-level technology demonstration day organised around four pillars.
