Start-stop assistant
A start-stop system automatically shuts down an automobile's internal combustion engine when the vehicle comes to a stop to reduce the amount of time the engine spends idling, thereby improving fuel economy. For a vehicle with manual transmission, this will take place once the gear lever is in neutral and the clutch pedal has been released. Meanwhile in automatic transmission vehicles, the engine switches off after the brake pedal has been depressed. To restart the engine, all the driver needs to do is activate the clutch or, in the case of automatic transmission vehicles, take their foot off the brake pedal.
